Once every 48 years, bamboo forests in Northeast India go into flower, and black rats descend upon them, like a plague. For the first time, National Geographic and NOVA and have captured this phenomenon film.
RAT ATTACK Premiers on NOVA Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 8pm ET/PT on PBS.

Also, I'd like to know what's with the rat tails... I need to watch this episode of Nova. I assume there is a price paid per tail. :/

For all the unaware - the black rats featured here are Rattus rattus. Brown rats (Rattus norvegicus) are the species kept as pets.
That said, any rat is a wonderful creature with remarkable intelligence. I think "like a plague" is a terrible way to describe any rat, unless they are carrying the fleas that carried the real plague. ;)

Rats are only vermin because of all the waste we dump, Naturally just like any other rodent they would eat nuts and berry's, but cant because we chopped down all the forests to build city's and that's why they have resorted to living off human waste, any animal on this planet has a right to live just like we do, it gets me mad when religion says animals don't go to heaven when they die because they don't have souls etc, its bull shit we humans are way too far up our own asses

You may not realize it, but the most successful mammal species on this planet, next to humans are rats. Once you have found a way to destroy each other, maybe the dynamic will change. Me? My money's on the rats. Never bet against them. You will lose.
