  • There are multiple meanings for "punk" and those meanings can be separated to describe personality or sound. Punk can apply to specific music, whether it's The Ramones or NOFX . While I agree that Johnny Cash was a punk, a prime example, I wouldn't use that same word to describe his sound. You're almost railing against genre as a whole, which, as you mentioned in your closing is purely about someone trying to sell you something... but I'm not going to describe Iggy Pop as alternative, either.
