Mahamrityunjaya is Shiva the Lord of Destruction. As mahakala he is Lord of Death. Meditation on the Four armed form is necessary. Shiva sits in a pond. Two arms are holding water pots from which He is pouring water over His head. His third hand on the right is chanting on a mala. The fourth hand has an eternal spring of water issuing forth.Sometimes his right hand is shown in a blessing mudra.Mahamrityunjaya Mantra gives the chanter a victory over death suffering and disease. Removes obstacles makes a holy environment and brings happiness.

  • a cucumber is not mentioned it is a gourd filled with nectar. !!!!!

  • @erwannbd

the simple translation contained in the wikipedia link is cucumber

Look it up. If you want to say gourd filled with nectar in place of cucumber

    you have my blessings.

  • hi.. i just want to know if you know that why a cucumber is mentioned... in the mantra...???

  • The cucumber is the only fruit that even if it is ripe it won't fall off the vine. It will sag and it will rot.The farmer has to cut it off.So the prayer is to Shiva - the 3 eyed lord who sees what we see and something more - remove the bundle of vasanas the ego. Please help-the cucumber cannot do it by itself-I have purified the ego as much as I can myself please release me from the bondage of death of time of change - Excellent question !!
