On Aug 24, PACT faith and grassroots community leaders held a press conference to celebrate the good news and thank Chief Moore for responding to community concerns. The presence of ICE agents in the San Jose Police Department has caused widespread fear among immigrant community members. When people fear and distrust local law enforcement because of their ties to federal immigration enforcement, community members are less likely to report crimes. This negatively affects the safety of our whole community. On July 8, PACT held a prayer vigil at San Jose City Hall to urge Chief Moore to end the new contract he announced on June 24 to bring two ICE Agents into the SJPD Gang Unit. This action was a violation of the City's long-time commitment to not participate in federal immigration enforcement. PACT faith and community leaders have been meeting and communicating with Chief Moore and other City officials since then urging action and sharing the devastating impact on community members and public safety. Chief Moore and the City of San Jose responded to the community's call for action!
