Bush and Cheney's torture program had nothing to do with keeping America safe. They tortured people to try to get them to falsely confess to a connection between Iraq and Al Qaida so as to justify their idiotic invasion of Iraq.

Unless you're too young to remember, you should know that after 9/11 everyone was freaking out. The US just underwent major terrorist attack on our own soil. People wanted action, they wanted protection. And they got it.
