Mike studied the old Black & White reels from previous boxers like the great Jack Dempsey and Rocky Marciano. Mike had tremendous lateral and head movement for a man of his size. Using his shift in body weight to attack his opponents solar plex's. Looking at the Heavy weight division today and it is a sorry site, slow sluggish boxing with no imagination. Mike Tyson will go down in History as the UNCROWNED KING and his legacy will remain stamped in boxing folk law.

Mike + Cus forever...fuck Don King the snake.... if Cus could have lived a few more years to watch Mike mature into his 20s, things could have been better...Mike would have ruled for decades

@saracenstallion Folklore and solarplexus, and sight. But yes, you are right on all counts. It's the peekaboo system, (lateral shifting) that became his greatest asset. As a short man, the only fight is inside, which is very dangerous at the same time. But you can mitigate the danger by reducing the effectiveness of a taller opponents punches by absorption, and lateral movement, forcing the punches to cross over the centerline, thereby tying, or "boxing" up your adversary.
That was Cus' legacy .

I wish D'Amato was still alive and that Tyson would come back to show the world what he could do with the right people by his side

Mike may have been the more girted fighter, however. I happen to think Tyson is the best natural boxer who ever lived. His hand speed was second to none. He was a short fighter, so his fist was able to reach a target faster than longer fighters. Combine the speed, natural power, and head movement, and Tyson was the perfect specimen. Height would have helped, but he would have lost some hand speed. But his lack of character (fortitude moreso than personality) was a handicap.

Ali wasn't just "great for his generation"; he is the greatest fighter that ever lived. Ali fought truly great fighters; Tyson lost to the two he faced. As for Tyson beating Ali, I doubt it. Mike wouldn't have the mental fortitude to deal with Ali's showmanship. If the fight went into the deeper rounds, Ali would certainly win. And I don't think even Tyson could knock Ali out in the early rounds; he was just too good a fighter, and he had a good chin as well.

Don't know about that...Cus let tyson get away with a lot.

Tyson will always be the King...not just because he was the youngest ever most dominant beast of a fighter, but because he came from nothing and became the #1 personality on the planet at one point.. and because he is a rare breed of people who never bow down to "political correctness" bullshit, but is rather always honest and genuine no matter what.. always completely real and always honestly expressing himself..on top of that, he is actually a very intellectual guy with unique eloquence
