Alan Goldberg stands outside the venerable Heartland Cafe in Rogers Park and talks about how the neighborhood has rebounded from its lows in the late 90s.

Goldberg, a commercial real estate broker with Hallmark & Johnson, has known Rogers Park since he first moved there in the late 1960s.

  • Heartland Café = haven for communists and people that hate America.

  • BTW, Rogers Park was always an integrated, yet tolerant, neighborhood since early part of the 20th century. African Americans, Catholics, Hispanics and Jews find it a nice place to live. We are happy with our African, Haitian, and Jamaican neighbors. A visit to the Rogers Park Historical Society may help you appreciate what is missing in your evaluation. Some just need a more lily white existence. Others fear what they don't know. This is a neighborhood with a higher population, so more action.

  • I still live in Rogers Park and remain quite happy. Besides, suburban schools need to teach suburbanites English. This is my conclusion based upon your post. RP doesn't need people like you who are bitterly seduced into the suburbs. We don't appreciate the taxes and outrageous fees for suburban services or your overpaid administrators. The Chicago Public Schools have some incredible selective enrollment high schools and junior high academic centers that work well for our kids. Good luck.

  • @lafew1 Before the market collapse, rogers park was considered an "up and coming" neighborhood... meaning that the black people was moving away. (DON'T CALL ME A RACIST. THAT'S WHAT IT MEANS) but now is just a crime infested gettho. YOU KNOW IT!

  • I wonder how is the "7030 something north Sheridan road area" doing with crime etc?

  • I guess that leaves lower real estate taxes for those who know & appreciate Rogers Park I intend to stay here; twelve years and counting. I'm under the impression that Alan doesn't live here. Perhaps, I'm mistaken.

Fortunately, those who prefer higher percentages of paler complexions & Poa annua are scared away by their own bigotry & ignorance. RP is considerably safer than most suburbs considering its size relative to its population. At least, that's my experience when I get out at night.

  • Cheers to YoChicago for covering this !

Cheers to Alan Goldberg as well !
