Borderline Personality Disorder is quite often diagnosed instead of or along with Biploar II.

Criteria:

1. frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.

2. a pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation

3. identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self

4. impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating). Note: Do not include suicidal or self-mutilating behavior covered in Criterion 5.

5. recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior

6. affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days)

7. chronic feelings of emptiness

8. inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights)

9. transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms

  • i´ve been hearing my name since infancy i guess. Now i know why. I know exactly how uncomfortable you are feeling in this world. They say schizophrenia is the worst, well i think personality disorder is the worst. There is no specific pill for a personality disorder. It persists, no matter what. And my mom doesn´t understand. She thinks I´m just making up excuses. If it only were so...

  • mental illness is the worst, no matter your diagnosis.. you can't get away from the misery

  • I am not sure how they decide if you are bpd. I had made a very serious suicide attempt. I was committed and the shrink diagnosed me as bipolar II then the next day he said you are bpd. I had been observed 24/7 every 15 mins by staff since my arrival. so I guess a combo of feedback from staff and our interviews which were no more than 15-20 mins

  • This is definately me down to a tee. Thanks for explaining it more for me. It makes sense to me now.

  • its scary when you start identofying with what i am saying isn't it

  • how do your voices sound to you? mine tell me they are going to kill me, i hear my name constantly and it always sounds as though they are coming from outside, cant shake th feeling that they are real.

  • I hear my name, from behind, I hear a radio in the "other" room, (i don't own a radio) I am never threatened by my voices they just call me

  • I remember after I had a broken eardrum I used to freak my mom out that I could hear the radio when it was off, funny enough sometimes I was right in what was playing, Just a thought.

  • How do they assess you for BPD? Did you fill out a bunch of questionnaires or did someone ask you a bunch of questions?

  • thanks for sharing very well presented:)
