Nasal irrigation - rinsing the nose and nasal passages with a solution, typically salt water -- is a cheap and easy way for the millions of people who suffer with spring allergies and nasal congestion to alleviate

  • is it okay to use normal salt instead of kosher if you don't have any around? and is there any difference in using normal salt?

  • Kosher salt is recommended because it contains no additives. If table salt is used, a smaller amount is necessary to achieve the same salt concentration. 1 tsp of Kosher salt = 3/4 tsp table salt.

  • I sent your question to Dr. Pynnonen and she said it's perfectly fine to blow your nose after nasal irrigation.

  • I had the same problem, the water gets trapped up in the sinuses above your eyes. after irragation, wait about 5 minutes then bend over the toilet, and gently blow your nose. the trapped water should come out.

  • thanks for the tips. i have a squeeze bottle myself and was looking for the right mixture to blend so i wouldnt have to buy pre-made solutions. this has been great. very comfortable mix.

  • @brownboy671 i dont think it hurts but it can be a lil uncomfortable. on a scale of 0-10 (like when doctors ask your pain levels) 10 being extreme pain, i would say it is a 1 to reflect a little discomfort. if you've ever been swimming and get some water up your nose it kind of tingles. the saline solution helps to lessen the tingle and the first few times you do it might be awkward but you get better at it. the discomfort became relief for me as I can felt better afterwards.

  • CAN ANYBODY TELL ME IF THIS STUFF HURTS!?!?!?!

  • Just think about this for a minute. If you have allergens in your nasal passages that cause allergies, don't you think washing the allergens out will help better than taking meds? If you nose is all plugged up with thick mucus don't you think moistening and washing it out of your sinuses would be more help than nasal sprays that only shrink nasal passages and dry the mucus up even more? Learn to use a nasal rinse and save yourself lots of suffering.

  • @cicero1453 Do it several times a day when you first start if you have lots of congestion and pressure. It has to be able to loosen up what is in there and get it all out. After that just use as needed.

  • @suicidalrockstate Good luck to you. I stopped using any nasal spray years ago when I started using the nasal rinse.

  • Omg, i will totally try this. After a terrible cold I had last year the sinus problem never went away and now it's a chronic issue that has left me using a nasal spray before going to bed, otherwise I can't sleep. I hope this will help get rid of the nasal spray.

  • very useful and effective tips...

  • thanks for the tips! will try this!
