I am a four year old born with a Neural Tube defect called Myelomeningocele - a severe form of Spina Bifida in which the spinal cord and nerves develop outside of the body and are contained in a fluid-filled sac that is visible outside of the back area, I also have hydrocephalus, a condition that causes the fluid inside of the head to build up. Those are just medical terms that sound scary, but I thank God that my mommy and daddy didn't give up when the doctors told them about me. They chose life and today I'm a beautiful little girl, yeah, I have to wear braces but they only help me to do everything everyone else can, I run, skip, and jump and I have even learned how to ride my bike. Because of my condition I have to go to the hospital more often than most kids, the clinic appointments can be very long and I see alot of doctors those days. This video is my very first Spina Bifida Clinic of 2009, even though I was tired everyone was very nice and they always go out of their way to make me feel special. If a doctor tells you that your baby will be born with Spina Bifida, I hope you too chose life....one day when your baby gets older and turns to look at you and smiles and gives you a hug, you will realize that they are the best gift God could give you. My parents always tell me that they give thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ for giving me to them. They are in awe of the obstacles that I have overcome through God's Grace. Thank You to all of the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, doctors, nurses, staff, volunteers and especially those who give their time and funds for kids like me to receive the best care for our condition.
Beautiful story, but an even more beautiful little girl. I am a 43 yr old born with the same birth defect and yes it is very hard but with God by my side I will continue to overcome obsticles just like this little girl will. God bless her always!!!
