She's AMAZING! You cant compare a high pitched female from the 20's with a deep voiced male from the 40-50s, by the way.

@wininboy In my opinion what makes a record memorable is a unique combination of singer and song and I dont think anybody sang this song better than her-she made it her own with her special delivery and thats why we are still admiring her after all these years Great and thanks

Helen had talent, sinatra had none... I don't like football/baseball/rugby either....
She was no Vaughan de Leith nor even Ruth Etting.Just another marketing product of very little vocal talent.Better were a host of others such as Marion Harris,Connie Boswell,Lee Wiley,Maxine Sullivan etc.Best part was that they could even sing.

Hmm, I guess I could hear some artificial Britney Spears-y quality to her singing if I wanted to, but still; she had an absolutely great sense of timing and really know how to "perform" and "act out" a song. She was a master of the sexy double entendre and makes everything she sings all her own. Plus, her music always put a really big smile on my face. So, I'd give her more credit than you, but Connie Boswell she ain't.

Thank you for not posting a nasty rebuke.I tend to overkill in my statements, and can be unkind at best.Anything or one that puts a smile on ones face is great if for that alone.Connie Boswell and Lee Wiley etc.were of a far different style of singing, and for me were far more smile inducing.

I'm not one to be nasty and you obviously know what you are talking about.
(I guess you don't really like Annette Hanshaw either?)

Ah yes. The "Boo-boopee-doop Girl."
I never knew her but she went to my church in Jackson Heights, NY. Famous for "I Wanna' be Loved by You." that's her classic contribution

For years, I've had this mental picture of her, listening to her records. It didn't agree with the movies you see of her on this site, unfortunately. ;-)
