@ratablanca2000 as a matter of fact i'm not french,i do speak italian and i do like opera (have to, since i study to be a director) and i absolutely despise if people pretend to sing a language (any language) without knowing exactly what it is they are talking about. knowing the right text and pronunciation for me is as vital to the performance as singing technically correct+ with artistic expression. that's a lot to ask but imho if you are not prepared to meet those demands - don't do it at all
@kralotta of course it would be super nice if I understand a lot of languages, at least the romantic ones (spanish, italian, french, latin,).. Probably your mother's tongue is french, so that's why is so important the meaning and the pronunciation and even the "accent" of each sentence (at least it would be important to me)... but then I wonder.. what happen with the music in other tongues? Don't tell me that u don't like the opera! Do u speak italian? do u understand o care about the language?
@ratablanca2000 i have to say i disagree with you. of course, it's not "just" about the language but it is about the words and they don't seem to get them too well. imo you need to understand music and content alike to deliver a good performance. singing "oh" would not have the same result, it would just be a nice chorale with no further meaning. what a pity, wouldn't you agree?
@tamitinuviel Do you realize that the beuty of this piece is not the french language by itself? don't you? This could have been only "oh" sounds and would have had the same result....
