This is a capture of my night quest to find out/confirm what is eating my zoanthid polyps.
As it turns out it is not a nudibranch or spider but good old amphipod. Yes, these are those large amphipods (scary). So I have captured them as a proof that they do sometimes eat zoas. How I decided to capture this moment? Hmmm - one day the colony seams fine but the next day I see a hole in the middle of a colony - where do these polyps went? So this is where they went... in the tummies of some hungry amphipods.
Please, don't rush saying that the polyps were about to die - because they were just fine along with others (this was a new frag - less than a week old).

  • Any solution yet?

    Hi

No - no solution. Just live with it - save a little frag (place it where they can't reach it easily) if you really fear the worst.

These btches ate almost all of my yellow polyps - some are still hanging but I think that each night they are fading away, one by one. What I can tell you - these amphipods like new fresh small polyps - those went away first.

  • weird.... I have never had that problem and I see amphipods everywhere in my reef! I even see some living under my zoas, but nothing like this has ever happened. I've had my eagle eye zoas for months and months now and they just keep growing lol.

  • I think im having the same problem
