I can confirm this. Watched the movie recently and when I heard that part, it was so familiar. Finally realised it was rise against :)

yeah it's when the boyfriend wants to leave and the girlfriend says she would go with him so she tells her best friend and they get in a fight cus she doesn't want her to go and then i think that's when she goes downstairs to do it with the dad..the part about new york is from american beauty too
