Overview of the Contax 167MT that I use as my backup to the Contax RX. It's an older model that set the stage for some of the features offered on later models. It's a less expensive alternative to the RX -- a tiny bit less solid, but still very well made. It's a little lighter, so that can be an advantage in some cases.

  • How do you load film into this camera?? I have 400 speed film and ruined an entire roll because it never hooked and I didn't know and developed it anyway. Help would be so much appreciated!!

  • @theginagina7 Check out my RX video(s). It's basically the same operation as shown there. There is also a little round indicator that will rotate if the film is loaded properly.

You can also do a google search for "contax 167mt manual" and it will return a match for butkus dot org. You can look at the first PDF there to see the actual manual page about loading (manual page 30).

    Good luck!

  • Excellent overview. Just purchased this camera as a way to use a decent collection of Yashica ML lenses I had been using on my DSLR. 28mm 50mm 90mm Panagor Macro (an absolute gem) and a 135mm. Anyway..will see how it goes...would love to add the Zeiss 28mm. But will likely stick with the Yashica and Panagor otherwise. Being used to the bulletproof build of the Olympus DSLR's E1 and E3 it seems Contax is a good fit for how I like to shoot. Thanks>>>

  • @iceee42 Nice to hear from a user of this camera. Definitely, Contax construction quality is tops. My RX feels like it's carved out of a solid piece of steel and coated with rubber. The 167MT is only a small step below that, IMO. Glad you enjoyed my overview.

  • @BermanYaniv Oh, it's my own limited knowledge of iMovie, not iMovie itself (I think) :-).

  • @Trecester I'm sure you know this, but they are very different cameras. I'm looking forward to trying out the G1 I have on the way, and evaluating just how well it auto-focuses, meters, etc. If it meters anything like my RX that will be fine. It's certainly a beautiful and compact system.

  • @mathomas1962 Great..I have been looking purchasing G1 but you provided a great option in the MT.

  • @mathomas1962 Thanks! Maybe change your tool - try premiere...

  • @Trecester Hehe. That shirt mystifies 99% of the population. Look out for the Contax G1 video I'm likely to be doing in the near future.

  • @BermanYaniv Thank you. I have watched both of your vids. Very nice production! I barely limp along in iMovie.
