Soccer News: SD Sockers Conquer Revolucion Tijuana with 16-10 Victory
San Diego Sockers Defeated Mexico's Revolución Tijuana with Ease and Honored Local Youth Soccer Icon Mike Connerley Who Has Dedicated over 30 years to Youth Soccer.
The San Diego Sockers defeated Revolución Tijuana and honored longtime San Diego Surf Cup president Mike Connerley for his many years of distinguished service to the San Diego soccer scene during a halftime ceremony on Saturday, November 26th
As a fans said, "You can't beat the Sockers."
With great soccer action and music blaring, fans were out of the seats this holiday weekend and on their feet cheering for the SD Sockers as the team took on Revolución Tijuana and won. Unlike the first two games of the season against the Anaheim Bolts, the new expansion team in Orange Country, last night's PASL's match was an easy victory. The SD Sockers were always in control of the action and their fans cheered loudly as each goal was scored.
Kraig Chiles tied a PASL league mark with seven goals, including five in the second quarter, as the San Diego Sockers raced out to leads of 10-1 and 15-5 before settling for a 16-10 victory at the Del Mar Arena in front of a crowd of 1,864.
The Sockers (3-0) exploded for seven goals in the second quarter including four straight by Chiles, who added an assist for an eight-point game. Sockers captain Aaron Susi added two goals and three assists, moving him within 13 tallies of 500 career points in indoor soccer. Goalie Riley Swift saw a lot of action and made several great saves.
The Sockers took a 3-1 lead after one quarter on goals by Eric Wunderle, Aaron Susi and Majell Aterado (two goals, assist). Leading 10-1 at the half, San Diego extended their advantage behind midfielder play maker Brian Farber, who put home two goals and has seven for the season.
Former Revolucion Tijuana owner Eduardo Velez (who has recently joined the Sockers for this season) added his second goal of the season as San Diego coasted out to a ten goal advantage before relaxing defensively in the fourth quarter
A very happy looking head coach of the SD Sockers, Phil Salvagio, said "16 goals, very happy. After last week with the close game against the Anaheim Bolts, we trained really hard and I thought we would click."
In the past, the south of the border competitor, TJ has been a tough competitor, but to the delight of the fans, the SD Sockers controlled the game from the beginning to the end.

We are starting to come around in our playing and we are actually the best team we have had in the past three years. We are going to be really, really good this year and we are hoping to keep our winning streak going. Overall everyone played well tonight. We kept the ball nicely and there isn't a player who stands out on the whole roster. Very soon there are some young guys who are going to get their chance to play like Chris Toth," said Salvagio.
The team had spent the week training hard. According to Susi, "The SD Sockers worked hard at practice on our fitness and linking up better. We worked all week to get the kinks out and it was absolutely great to have this win on Thanksgiving weekend." Captain Aaron Susi said, "We played well tonight. We had not been playing very well in the first two games and we wanted to come out fast and knock the ball around and create some opportunities, and that is what we did. We were able to convert many of the opportunities into to goals and it felt great. We scored 16 goals tonight."

  • @mb8008 I took over 30 minutes of video not the complete game thats why I missed some of the goals and too many points scored. Then I edited it to 11 minutes. Now my youtube account say I can put over 15 minutes.

  • Good video but would be better if we could actually see the actual goals as opposed to the after goal celebrations...I mean some goals are there but most are not in the scope of the camera...And some are completely left out....
