The gigantic sign that has stood in front of the Las Vegas Hilton came down Tuesday. The hotel lost its franchise with Hilton Hotels and is now changing its name. The resort will now be called "LVH: Las Vegas Hotel and Casino."
There is no timeline on when the sign will be replaced. Managers at the property say the sign will not be sent to the Neon Boneyard. Instead, it will be stored for now.
Lenders filed a foreclosure notice against the Las Vegas Hilton following the disclosure that the 2,950-room hotel was in default on a $252 million loan.
The Las Vegas Sun reported the notice filed Sept. 2 doesn't mean lenders will actually foreclose.
It cites a 2010 default that the Hilton resolved without foreclosure or bankruptcy. A spokesman for the main Hilton investor, Colony Capital LLC, declined comment.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Hilton Hotels Corp. won't renew the property's franchise in January.
It says parent company Colony Resorts LVH Acquisitions LLC reported in an August earnings report that the Las Vegas Hilton used monthly payments totaling $3.5 million for June, July, and August for operational expenses while the company tries to restructure debt.
