In Kyoto we stayed at a tiny Ryokan in the middle of the city. It was between City Hall and the Imperial Park so the location was great. Their other location is near Kyoto Univesity and you can see photos of that one on their web site. It was also under renovation as the new owners had just bought it. That meant two things: 1) We had the whole place to ourselves, and 2) No breakfast since the kitchen was being remodeled. Instead of breakfast at our place the owners actually gave us a part of our tab back every morning and told us about some nice little restaurants just around the corner. We had a good time.
