A pair of Yubari melons fetch two million yen at an auction in Yubari, Japan.
A pair of melons from the Japanese city of Yubari were snapped up by a department store for 16,500 U.S dollars, just over 8,000 GBP.
The department store told Netix Press that it was willing to pay so much for the juicy pair in order to mark the shop's 135th anniversary.
Yubari melons are popular summer presents, and as a traditional Japanese business custom are often given as corporate gifts.
The melons have a slightly reddish orange flesh and have been cultivated from crossing the North American rugby-shaped spicy cantaloupe with European varieties.
