President and rector of Central European University John Shattuck opened this fall's Institute for New Economic Thinking conference in Budapest, Hungary by remarking on the university's unique position in international education.
"This can be an exciting laboratory in many, many different ways," he told dozens of assembled economists, convened to discuss new ways forward in economics after the economic crisis. He said that CEU's distinct mission and character made it the perfect place to host such a summit.
Held September 6-8 at Central European University, the conference was presented by the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET), Central European University, Budapest; DIME - Dynamics of Markets and Institutions in Europe (Network of Excellence, European Union, 6th Framework Program); and the Laboratory of Economics and Management (LEM), Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa.
