I didn't know Alan Tornberg does American Swing Dance now....

I only know him as a prof latin dancer.

Thank you for posting the clip, but frankly I'm a little disappointed that you'd be so harsh saying this is the only American style that's tolerable.

There's plenty of styles to be fond of, even styles to have a propensity to like above the others, but to say one style out of many is the only one that is tolerable is a mite dramatic don't you think?

I'm sure there's room for you to fancy 'something' if only a motion or 2, from other styles, even if you don't care for the whole thing.

As you correctly observed I was being dramatic - hyperbolic. There are certainly aspects of American I appreciate but I've found the standard to generally be disappointingly low. The best American dancers train in International style and in appreciating them I feel I'm appreciating something other than American style.

I can also believe American is great fun to dance - doing and watching are very different. I'm just not that into it.

My pet peeve with present day latin dancers is their dancing has no relationship to characterization of the dances. Cha cha suppose to be cheeky, rumba to be romantic, etc. If you don't believe me, just turn down the sound when watching latin dancing. i can't tell which dance they are dancing sometimes.

yeah, i am amazed in his verstility. I can't think of too many other contempory latin dancers that can dance anything else than the five latin dances. international style latin doesn't live in a vaccum by itself. jive take steps from american swing. cha cha take elements from mambo etc. in my opinion, to be a great dancer, you have to know other dances that are related to what you are dancing.

Maybe - I know Allan and Vibeke use elements from West Coast Swing in jive - it's likely they do they same in American Swing.

Well, as a dancer training professionaly (in a studio that takes after Allan's style and dance philosophy of dancing) I can say that whatever this man is doing, he's doing it good.. Yup, this Allan sure it something.

I hope to be half of what he is, one day. Good luck to all of you, dancers throughout the world.
