July 16, 2009 - Union Pacific 844, the only steam locomotive in the U.S. that has never been officially retired from a Class 1 railroad, departed Cheyenne, WY for Denver, CO. In the half hour before the 844 rolled out of town, two eastbound freights appear while one westbound headed out ahead of the shiny black 4-8-4 and it's 22-car train.
These clips will be featured in an upcoming episode of the TV series Trackside. Go to for more information.

Its not that they dont trust the 844, its also for HEP (head end power) and insurance in case something does happen with the 844.
