The Princeton University Georgian Choirs, Dedebi and Gaumarjos, directed by the choir's founder, Vrinda Chidambaram, perform O Krisdeshi at their 5 year anniversary concert on February 25, 2010. We are singing this for the first time outside of Georgia. It is a Christian hymn from Lat'ali Village, Svaneti. There were only two elderly men in that village who remembered this song, Shalva and Sozar Girgvliani. Between April 2006 and the summer of 2007, Carl Linich and the Pilpani family rescued it from obsolescence by working closely with the Girgvlianis. The song required a fair amount of reconstruction. Vakho and Carl then taught the song to me and several friends this past summer. I subsequently taught it to my choir at Princeton, where we performed it for the very first time on U.S. soil. Many thanks to Vakho Pilpani, Islam Pilpani, Natela Pilpani, Shalva and Sozar Girgvliani, and Carl Linich for preserving this song and teaching it to me.
