The Underground (Joseph)
Stripped of dignity as a result of being trafficked, exploited, tortured or silenced, North Koreans refugees initially come to our shelters expecting only to find basic necessities. However, our goal is to equip them with the tools they need to thrive when they move on, to recognize that their voices are worthy of being heard. In 2006, LiNK brought three boys - one of whom was Joseph - out of China to safety in the US, where they have become the first North Korean Unaccompanied Refugee Minors to arrive. I am from South Korea, and it pains me that someone who is so close to me, is suffering this way. Even with all the hardships, he still finds hope for his country, a new change of freedom.
