The original perl script for twitter monitoring is thanks to http://tinyurl.com/6s9fzb.
I forgot to mention that sometime in the future i'll add a sensor so it knows when theres a coffee cup underneath so the bastard doesn't pour boiling water everywhere... Again.
I got all of the parts from www.sparkfun.com and www.adafruit.com and the tea from www.adagio.com (from the signature 2008 Diggnation tea blends).

  • I am "tech dumb" when it comes to programs like this, but Im trying to use this basic idea for a community art piece. I have one question that Im hoping you can help me with though. I am just wondering if the program is reading/scanning for the message sent from your phone to the Twitter account or searching the Twitter server for tweets sent from that account. I am trying to set it up so that when individuals of a community mention a Twitter handle and a specific "phrase" the device turns on

  • @studentofsociety i ran a script that searched twitter for the hashtag every 30 seconds, and when it came up with a new result it would send that to the device.

  • There's a servo under the clear plastic brewer thats attached to the silver coffee can. It just pushes up on the brewer which makes it pour out the bottom.

  • but it won't cook if I tweet the hashtag?

  • @lennart0106 No, the way I had it working was to search for my username and the hashtags, and if someone new comes up it'll make tea.

I'm going to probably make a new one using an ethernet shield, and i'll post all the code somewhere for people to look through

  • I wonder why you would do this when you can buy a device like this that is connected to the net. But hey, it is fun to make things

  • Do you know where I can buy one? I'd like to see what you mean.

  • @LEETLANDON you might be able to use a laser pointer and a photo resistor

  • The link is 404'd Can you post the code somewhere?

  • how do you open the second container with the tea inside after 7 minutes? i dont see a servo

  • i wonder whether the opening of the middle of the tea maker at 4:31 is controlled by Arduino, too.
