  • Hi, can you please reply, i have a male border terrier (3 and a half years old) who is very hyper and finds it hard to concentrate, I can make him go up on to 2 books but then he just avoids them or jumps over them :'( I realy want to be able to do this trick but he gets bored and tired what shall i do (I had got him up on a chair and then he would put his front feet on the floor and lift his back feet a little bit off the chair but that got no where) thanx :)

  • @naomi26angel sessions for this trick should be very short, no more than 10 minutes at a time, I would suggest 5 minute training sessions and do a couple of them a day with long gaps in between. make sure you use very high value treats and if your dog struggles to go up another book then put something like a magazine on top of the book so as it's just a tiny increase in height and then build up with another magazine and so on. hope that helps :)

I have a 1.2 year old female Pug named Shming. She is a very smart dog,but she also very hyper, which makes training difficult... She knows how to sit,lie down, stay, roll over, play dead, high five, come, heal, and bow.

I have tried teaching her to go backwards, but if I put my hand above her then she just thinks I want her to sit. I would be very grateful if you answered me,do you think she is ready to learn this trick?

  • @katiecullen3000 hey, I think you could start training this but only with one or two books, don't train the full handstand until your dog is a couple of years old as you want her to be fully developed for a physical trick like this. try capturing the walk backwards by walking backwards with your dog coming towards you and then try taking a step towards your dog, keep doing it until your dog takes a step back, as soon as your dog takes a step back you should click and treat at once.then build up.

  • Another wonderful video by the talented Sian and her amazing dogs! ^-^ I will definitely be suggesting it to people who ask how to teach the walking hand stand.

  • @crazycopper345 does your dog know how to back up? if not train a solid back up first. then spread a towel out on the floor and have your dog back up onto that. make sure your timing it spot on and click AS SOON as your dogs back feet are on the towel. then you can place something under the towel to build it up, something like magazines. don't worry if your dog doesn't get it first go, keep as it and make it as easy as you can for your dog to do the right thing, that means making it simple :)

  • I have a 7 and 1/2 year old border terrier. Within about 2 minutes of attempting to teach her anything she lays down and loses interest. Is there anything i could do to keep her interested? Its not just this trick, anything i try and teach her she just gives up. I want to be an animal trainer so i would love to know how to deal with this behavior? If it makes a difference she is quite a lazy dog and spends her whole day sleeping when she isn't on a walk.

  • Hello, Im teaching my dog the handstand and i need some help with him.....

  • Hi can you please reply, I am going to be getting a male toy australian shepherd puppy very soon, and I was wondering if this is a good breed to do this trick. I know I won't be training the trick for awhile, but I was just wondering if this is good breed for this trick. I'd love to teach him to do all these cool tricks.

Hi my dog is a English cocker spaniel, he`s one and a half. He is in good health and he is quite lazy but he does spring into hyper mode at times, so do you think he could be trained to do this? <3

  • How often should I train this trick. (everyday, every other day?) I just started training this with my girl Riot and she is doing a great job. We train this three times a day for ten minutes a day. I don't want her to get board tho. so ho many times a week should i train this. Next week we move to three books. :D

  • My dog has gotten to the point where she does the handstand on anything but if I try without something being there she starts walking backwards searching for a wall or an object to do it against. How do I teach her not to go back?

  • This will be my goal trick for the year
