A truly beautiful song. I was almost shocked when i heard it for the first time on the 20 Years of Jethro Tull album. Thanks for posting it!

The song was the theme to a program called "Blood of the British" which traced the bloodlines of the peculiar mix of warlike peoples who made up the British Nation.. Celts Romans Germanic
Scandinavians .........Most of them Sailors all of them warriors

@KingHellstrings I agree, doesn't sound like 1986. But according to box set notes, it was released in 1986 and recorded the same year at Manor Studios. Musicians - Ian Anderson, Martin Barre, Gerry Conway, David Palmer. Brilliant song, whenever it was recorded!

It is a lovely song, and very evocative. I'm not sure if a lament should be used as the English National Anthem though.

Does anyone remember this as a theme tune to an archaelogy programme in the 80's on Channel 4 ? ....I can't remember what it was called (but it wasn't time team)

I refuse to believe that this was recorded in 1986. He doesn't sound like a Steel Monkey at all. =P
I can believe it's 80's, though, as you can here Broadsword-like Vettese-synths in the background.

@Kayriel I know you mean well,but its "ach" at the end, the same as the"loch" in "loch ness",which is often mis-pronounced as "lock".

some days ago, i was at a friend's, and i wanted to show her this song. it was gone! i was annoyed and decided to repost ir, it's beautiful. glad you like it too.
