Senator Burr floor speech on Camp Lejeune: "comitment to...not quit until we do the right thing."

On June 26, 2012, U.S. Senator Richard Burr spoke on the floor of the Senate about his bill to provide care to those affected by exposure to toxic water at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

Excerpt: "I just think it's absolutely a crime that now, some 40 years later, we haven't even completed the studies that we need to, to understand the severity of the problems that we have. I might add that some of the service members and some of the family members that served at Camp Lejeune during this time are no longer with us so it's hard to reconstruct exactly why, but I can assure you, when you have some estimate ten times the number of male breast cancer cases from people that lived on that base during that time, one might conclude that it was a hot spot based upon its drinking water. My hope is that this Congress will move forward with a very small initial step but also make a commitment to these family members and service members to not quit until we do the right thing."

I was in the Air Force as a Turd Herder, environmental grad student, work with water & waste treatment plants, pumps, wells, water towers inside & out, flight line water quality checks, any water coming off the base was not sending JP4 & other bad crap out into any creek or river. At the waste plant,I said it would be great if we could use the digester to run the heating for the plant & back up generators, 5 huge ones! But anty time I found a bad reading, I was told to shut up.So I join the Navy
