Oh, how petty. If by "can't care for them" you mean "stay home with them" then the populations would decrease drastically- which would ruin the economy. Face it, society has changed. Families need 2-incomes and what's more- you're ignorant attitude completely ignores single parents.

There is nothing wrong with working mothers, and nothing wrong with daycare.

  • You might be able to convince me that it's the LESSER of the two evils...neither are optimal.

There is no doubt, staying at home with your kids WITHOUT any kind of job is the ideal---however, life isn't perfect.

My statements aren't meant to condemn particular individuals, but to opine on principle...

caregivers cannot nurture a child as uniquely as their own mother. And if the mother is not inclined to nurture her own children, why have them? What is the purpose in that?

  • I think you're being unecessarily unfair to the people who run these programs, and the parents who use them.

It is childcare- caring for children while their own parents are unavailable. Its a lot better than large childcare facilities.

As a nanny to several children, and a former daycare worker, organisation is the key to everyone being nurtured equally.

Do you also belittle mothers who have more than 2 or 3 kids? Because with the same amount as FDC, they can't all be nurtured.

  • Not really unfortunate, no. Sometimes in order to keep pace, to provide for the children's future, mother's need to work.

I am a nanny, and I assure you, nurturing is not short. Its not a robotic process. Nanny's and Family-daycare workers are like Aunts to the kids.

  • Unless an unfortunate situation leaves no other option, mothers choose to spend time away from their kids to work all day...they are belittling themselves and their children.

I would say their skills and abilities/talents, which are too many to count, are needed desperately by their children. That's what nurturing is all about--paying someone to change a diaper or teach them a song is one-dimensional compared to the limitless ability of a nurturing mother.

  • We're adults here-why be so offended at my opinion of what is best for children? This isn't about the feelings of parents, believe it or not!

I was watching several kids yesterday for a friend of mine who had a job interview. It took away a great deal of attention from my own children and the care I want to give them. Isn't that the point? To 'care' for the child of someone else? How does this benefit the caregiver's child? OR the children of the parents who are gone?

  • Puh-lease!

Family Daycare is WONDERFUL. Each carer only cares for up to 5 at a time. It saves them the cost of childcare for their own child- while still earning an income.

Its not that much of a stretch to do the things you normally do with your own child, with an extra three or four.

And don't belittle the mothers who run family daycare homes. Do you belittle the mothers who work all day, and don't even spend time with their kids.

    Self righteous attitudes.

  • so is it fair to your kids to have to spend your entire day taking care of other peoples kids?

Where is the sense of motherhood in that? It's still a job!
