Here is a special story on a P-38 Pilot who was daring and a hot dog. He was doing some risky high-speed flying in the Aleutian Islands and accidentally crashed his plane as a result of it. He was fortunate enough to live to tell the tale, and his plane wreckage was left in that very spot for another 40+ years. Enjoy!
Ive seen a ton of photos of that p-38. never knew the story behind it. This is a fantastic video.

The only P-38 unit in Alaska during WWII was the 54th Fighter Squadron. It was the first unit flying P-38's to shoot down an enemy plane -- in fact the first two planes -- the long-range Japanese four engine flying boat. Lt. Stanley Long is the first pilot to make a "kill" in a P-38 Lightning. It was one of the few air-victories in the Aleutian Theater of War. Unfortunately, the victory -to-loss ratio was not good. More pilots and planes were lost to weather and accidents than to combat.

Good little story, and one of the few positives to come out of the Aleutians campaign during WW2.
