@20FlightBlues I totally agree. I loved the song in 1963.
but listening to the words in English only makes the song
better.
If you like 1963 music, I have a great playlist, among
my many music playlists.

@theboyfromxtown Yes there are many versions, The lyrics in this version are the closest to the Japanese original.

Other than the original this was always my favorite version, it's amazing.

This is the version that my mum listens to. (: I taught myself to play it on piano one day 'cause i had it stuck in my head.
I know, "My First Lonely Night Without You" "You Took Your Love Away From Me" & the Japanese Sukiyaki. (:

Check out the very different 45 version. It's available here on youtube

Bobby Vee did this version on one of his "30 Hits of the 60's" albums. A great song by anybody who does it.
I have only heard the english lyrics written by A Taste Of Honey so thanks for bringing this up to find and listen :)

This is a more than special number by Mr. Akens. I was 10 years old when the Birds and the Bees tune became a hit. An even bigger hit with me is "My first Lonley Night" I believe I was 8-9 years old when Sukiyaki came out, a tremendous hit in the USA. But, "My First Lonely Night" is a monument and worthy of greatest praise! What a special tune!

This seems to be a decent interpretation of the themes of the original song. Parts of it are even based of the original lyrics. This is a real treat to find.
