It surprises a lot of people to learn that not only does slavery still exist across the globe, but that the human trafficking industry is still thriving. And this isn't just in third world, underdeveloped countries - Its happening in our own backyard. And while efforts have been made to reduce the number of people who are kidnapped and put to work as laborers or prostitutes, the global recession is causing the human slave trade to reach new heights. Mike Papantonio of Air America's Ring of Fire talks about this rise in trafficking, and what efforts are being done to control it, with Benjamin Skinner, author of the book "A Crime so Monstrous: Face-to-Face with Modern Day Slavery."
We were all born into servitude. The punitive taxation we are all bound to makes us slaves after the fact. Debt, taxation and inflation are the tools of this predatory slave trade. Whether you can walk the streets or are held captive in steel containers and sweat shops is only a matter of reference because in essence, we are all boat people sailing to nowhere but a future of constant servitude. The new plasma TV you bought doesn't make you a free man, just makes you think you are.
