Every few years, Rob Shearer, Director of the Schaeffer Study Center takes a group of homeschool students, parents, and friends on a 2 week study tour focusing on the Renaissance & Reformation.

This is a compilation of photographs from the 2005 tour. The next tour will leave on Dec 26, 2011 and return on Jan 9, 2012.

We start In Rome, visiting the monuments of the Ancient City. The next day we visit the outstanding art of the Renaissance, starting with the Lacoon and continuing with the Pieta, the Raphael stanza, and the Sistine chapel.

On to Assisi & Florence - the Basilica of St. Francis (with frescoes by Cimabue & Giotto), then the Brancacci Chapel, the Baptistery, the Duomo, the Uffizzi, and the San Marco monastery

After a weekend in Salzburg and a New Year's celebration, we continue on to Germany. First stop is Nuremberg to get a flavor for medieval Germany and the workshop of Durer. Then on to Erfut and a visit to the Augustinian Monastery where Luther became a monk, followed by Wittenberg, the castle church, the grave of Luther, the town church and Luther's favorite pub, the Black Bear. We finish with a visit to the Wartburg castle where Luther was hidden after his condemnation and the room where he translated the NT into German. Finally, we pay a visit to Marburg, home of the world's first protestant university and the site of a 3 day religious conference where Luther & Zwingli met, and failed to reach agreement.
