  • I've always wondered why people who use muzzle loading pistols dont buy a second or more cylinder for that exact purpose,if I was a BP shooter I would buy a couple of spare cylinders. The manufacturers of the modern repro BP guns dont charge a fortune for them, which is what I thought would be the discouragement.

  • @silver760 for international MLAIC competition it is not allowed to use any type of "reloaders" on the side. Reloading must be done on the revolver without removing the cylinder. Maybe that's one of the reasons that keep shooters from adding / using that sort of spare.

  • @nipponcarisbestcar Black powder guns are uk legal if you have a licence, but if you want to use black powder in it you also need a black powder licence and also a permit to transport black powder

  • @newfrontier45 Eastwood's gun was not a replica. It was an actual Remington New Model Army that was converted to fire blanks by Stembridge Gun Rentals. If you do a google search you will find pictures of the actual gun on display.

  • @jassoe Actually it is a very accurate replica of original 1858 cartridge conversions.

@Greyswyndir Is that why the military bought 1858's? Actually, original Remingtons were not very good. Folks think they were then as they are now but Colt had the definite edge in quality and that's why they got multiple military contracts. Not to mention that the strength issue with the topstrap is misunderstood and overrated.

  • Awesome...It's like ejecting an empty clip and putting a loaded one into a semi-automatic pistol.

    > In UK, black powder guns are forbidden, even for licenced shooters.

    Complete bullshit.

  • I never had the conversion type like that one, but I have had a couple of 1858 cap and balls from Cabellas and ordered extra cylinders. I carreied them in little pouches on the front of my belt, pre-loaded and capped! I could go through 18 rounds in a matter of seconds. The Remington is a good strong, reliable, and accurate pistol, both the cap and balls and cnversions and later 1875 Remington. Frank James said the same thing, as he preferred the Remingtons over anything.

  • @jassoe: No such convirsions....maybe!! but hey they didnt have a Bass Pro Shop around either

  • so wrong. there was no such conversions. There where conversions but not as this one. If he loaded a new loaded cylinder you could see the bullits inside. But you could not sea any balls.

  • The video shows why the 1859 Remington was the best cap and ball revolver of its time. Not only because of the fast reloading but because the cylinder is reinforced with a top strap and it is more accurate then the Colt revolvers. I would have hated to have to rely on a Colt revolver during the civil war. If given the choice I would have chosen a Remington 1858 every time. I've shot all of the Colts and none of them shoot where the sights are pointed. You have to use Kentucky windage.
