a great track from celtic spirit , the song was the theme for Rob Roy . a short peice about Rob Roy -

Rob Roy
Born Glen Gyle, 1671, died Inverlochlarig, 1734

Robert MacGregor was born at Glen Gyle, at the western end of Loch Katrine, in the Trossachs region of Central Scotland. His popular moniker 'Rob Roy' comes from the Celtic for 'Red Robert', a reference to his red hair. His father was Donald MacGregor, and his mother was Margaret Campbell. At that time the MacGregor clan was 'proscribed', which meant that no one was allowed to use the name MacGregor, or wear the clan tartan.

In 1693 he married Mary MacGregor at Glen Arklet, and together they had four sons, James, Ranald, Coll, and Robin. The site of the building in which they were married can still be seen on the B829 just east of Inversnaid.

Rob fought with his father Donald in support of the Catholic James Stewart in his struggle with the Protestant king of England, William of Orange. Donald was captured and imprisoned and Rob's mother died while Donald was captive.

  • This is not an Irish tune or sung in Irish Gaelic, its a scottish lament written by Annag Chaimbeul ("Annie Campbell"). In 1788 who was scottish. Its a song for her lover who was lost at sea. Its sung in Scottish Gaelic.

  • I want this song at my funeral

Side note: I am of Scottish/English descent, though I don't know how to speak Gaelic, I want to learn. My mother was from the McClain clan (her maiden name).

  • saxonwalls a bit of a cunt isnt he!!!

  • @seonidh its amazing how many people get that mixed up. Its a beautiful scottish lament.

  • @NOVATICANWARS God almighty man ,what are you on ..this song is done in Scottish gaelic and has nothing to do with a mysthical celtic race.Gaelic is a living language not a relic and people have a right to listen to and enjoy it...I can't understand why a few non-gaels of Scotland feel so threatened by a language and people who have exsisted on that Isle for hundreds and hundreds of years..If its history you want.reilize scot against scot was bad for Scotland in the past and still is..

  • raibh maith agat
