Well, there was a shuttle launch on 9-9-94-2 days before-when u were born, Discovery was in orbit on STS-64. I had to think about it for a min. I guess this would be the first launch after your entrance:) This flight seen here had an aborted launch attempt on Aug. 18, 1994 where the 3 main engine started started and the ship's computers detected an overheated pump and shut down the engines at T-1.9 seconds.

I was born on 9-11-94; was this the first shuttle flight after i was born??

I noticed that on almost all STS missions, the shuttle rolled to starboard when headed downrange. STS-118 rolled to port. Why did they choose that flight path?

Great launch! Love the launch commentary by Buckingham. Hey Mian - It's Nate from NSF. Thanks for sharing!
STS 118 rolled to 51.6 degrees because it was a mission to add components to the ISS (International Space Station). All ISS servicing missions perform that big roll, between 51 to 57 degrees, because that is the launch plane needed to catch up with the Space Station. Missions centered solely on life sciences need only use between a 28.5 to 39 degree roll program.
