  • Out of interest, even Gakiya sensei keeps his grip the same width for the gorenda so I'm interested to know your source tsukenryu.

  • I did attend Sangunetti Sensei's Gasshuku in Leeds last year, but unfortunately had to miss out when he visited Sensei O'Conner's due to other commitments, If you know of any coming up, I would appreiciate you forwarding the details to me,

  • Well you're far more qualified than me then. I should keep quiet!

  • I trained at Matayoshi Sensei's dojo 1990-94. Gakiya Sempai was often teaching me. If he tells you to keep hands apart, you should. Ignore my comment.

  • I have studied under Sangunetti Sensei for a few courses but we officially train under Sensei Albie O Connor. He follows the IOKA branch of Matayoshi Kobudo which for some reason doesn't shorten the grip on this move. Apologies if this was duff advice. Rudefrog76, I'd suggest you catch the next Gasshuku if you can get to it as Sangunetti sensei comes over every year to teach and he's the best source for Matayoshi Kobudo in the west.

  • Nice to see you taking such an interesting in Mayayoshi Ryu. Just a couple of things (you're probably going to get sick of these comments!). On the gorenda (yotsu waza) techniques your grip gets much too close (the bo should remain trisected equally) and after the two step over nuki/tzuki techniques, the press and step appears to be in an unusual direction when that entire sequence usually just takes place on a straight forward backward line.
