Only a year and a half old I had to say goodbye to my little baby scruff.
He hadn't been his usual self and I got him out of the cage last night (after a weekend of being busy and thinking he was being quiet...) He was really worse for wear.
I rang up the vets as soon as they would answer my call and got him booked in and took him.
He had a bladder obstruction which was causing his limp and he was bleeding when the vet got him to pee.
The most humane thing to do for him was to let them put him down.
And YES Vets do put small animals to sleep.
They care for all pets, not so much fish - you're better off with a specialist, but i took him down on the off chance he would just be ill and eaten something bad...
Somehow I knew i wouldn't be bringing my baby back home. They give me the option to take him home and bury him, so I did... his eyes were still slightly open and i thought he was just resting for a second... but no...
The little sod was dead.
I keep talking about him like it's present tense and he's still here.
Yet i was the one to bury him and hold his warm little body one last time.
Years of having hamsters die on someone never makes it any easier.
