The School of Public Health at the University of Maryland, College Park is pleased to announce it has received accreditation for a five-year term, until July 1, 2015, from the Board of Councilors of the Council on Education for Public Health, making it the only accredited School of Public Health School at a public university in the Washington Metropolitan region.
The five-year span is the longest term the School of Public Health could have achieved as a first-time applicant. Accreditation is granted to programs successfully preparing students for entry into a recognized profession. Having formed just three years ago, the achievement recognizes a rapid progression toward the School's mission to advance the state of health in Maryland, and to train a new core of public health professionals.
The Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) is an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools of public health and certain public health programs offered in settings other than schools of public health. The School of Public Health was required to prepare a self-study in preparation of the accreditation process, and it is available here: http://sph.umd.edu/about/accreditation/index.cfm.
