The number does shrink when you consider that out of that number, only around 7percent are Type 1 diabetics.

Yes indeed, type 1 diabetes affects fewer people than type 2. However, people with both types of diabetes - and that number is skyrocketing - are faced with the challenges of taking control of their condition. This is the thrust of the World Diabetes Day campaign.
