  • it's because each one is handmade, so depending on the maker and even the material, the sound comes out differently. Because the kayageum is made from natural material, the sound also differs from player to player.

    I play the daegeum, and it's like that too. I had to go through three different daegeums to find a one that sounded SIMILAR to my teachers. My first one was a whole key off! LOL :D I think this is why korean instruments sound better solo rather than in trios or quartettes.
