A whale is euthanized with a sharp knife while a wall of voluteers block the view of the media to the right of the screen on Mustang Island, TX (June 10, 2008).

  • I made this video because the press was blocked from the area and the Marine and life guard voluteers blocked the view of everyone except a few of us that were on private property. I have heard that the UT Marine Institute doesn't have facilities for a 30ft whale. The waves and wind were particularly heavy/strong that day. I am pretty sure they did sedate it before cutting it. It is sad, but what I was most disappointed with was the censorship enforced by the parties involved.

  • And just in case anyone is wondering, the whale was heavily sedated BEFORE the bleeding. Also, consider what may have caused this poor whale's condition... sonic/acoustic blasts from ships, rigs, etc. If this is proven to be the case based on the necropsy, the protection of sperm whales and other offshore whales will increase. There is quite a bit of good to come from this, though it seems upsetting.

  • Sperm whales don't swim up to a shore because they want to or did it by mistake. They are sick, they are badly hurt, and whatever is wrong with them is bad enough that they can't function normally anymore. It is absolutely true that there is no way to fully euthanize an ailing whale.

Your prius battery is killing the earth. Loser

  • damn hippies

  • Ahhh I love wales : (

  • VERY SAD AND HARD TO WATCH

  • I was there at "The Seagull" when it happened I had a perfect veiw and even got to see it up close. It was a crazy experience.

  • your bike was still made in a factory....you're destroying the environment....just you can't see the effects of what you're causing because its distant...the body needs iron to make blood.....your bike has dried up the earth's blood with the fires it was forged in.... the tree still makes noise when it falls alone........

  • I hope you're joking. A bicycle uses a tiny fraction of a percent of the oil that that toxic monstrocity you drive uses. A little iron in your cereal is not the same thing as a 200 pound iron ingot dropped on your skull. SNAP OUT OF IT.

  • ...dynamite.

  • yeh...umm...your bike was made in a factory ....made in machines....machines using oil....your bike was then shipped--probably cross the country...if you want to whine bout how we are destroying the environment then stop buying things that destroy it....btw the laptop you're using was probably made overseas...then shipped in a boat that could have perhaps injured this whale or one like it....hmmm....

  • The first question I would ask with a beached whale, if it's the type that eats by straining sea water, not this one apparently, is, is it's mouthed filled with oil sludge from the oil balls that now cover the oceans due to oil spills? Is he asking humans to remove this filth from his mouth. This is something I'd expect the media cartel to suppress. Bad for the oil mob. I got rid of the car 20 years ago, switched to a bicycle, best thing I ever did.
