This is the Northwest Junior Pipe Band from the Seattle area (Shoreline) in Washington State. The band is the only youth band from the United States (of 33 novice-juvenile and juvenile bands) going to the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland on August 16th, 2008.

Here they perform their qualifier tune set after the band competitions at the Portland Highland Games for two very widely respected piping and drumming competition judges; Bob Worrall and John Scullion. Both judges spent 10 to 15 minutes talking with the band about their performance, as well as the kind of conditions and competition to expect at the championships.

Tune set:
Piper's Cave
Earl of Mansfield
Jenny's Bawbee

www.nwjpb.org for more on the band. www.theworlds.co.uk for more on the World Pipe Band Championships.

The band placed 1st of 24 youth and adult bands at the Perth Highland games in Scotland, 1st of 12 at the Crieff Highland Games, 3rd in the World Championship Qualifier and 5th in Novice at the World Pipe Band Championships 2008. Thanks to everyone who gave the band feedback, support, and financial assistance to send 30 youth on a trip they will not soon forget. Stay tuned to nwjpb.org for future plans for the NWJPB.

  • I missed last years games, when are they this year?

  • July 18th for the Portland Games.

  • thats my highschool!!!! GO SHORECREST!!

  • sort of. The band director for Northwest Junior Pipe Band is also the piping instructor at Shorecrest High School, but this band is an independent non-profit organization with no big sponsors or organizations. :) But, several of the kids from NWJPB also play with the Shorecrest band.

  • NWJPB brought back a 5th place plaque from the Worlds, as well as winning first at Perth and Crieff in Grade 4. At Perth, they also won against this years Grade 4B 4 time champions (World, European, Cowal, and British).

  • St Thomas isn't listed on the RSPBA site this year, there's a draw posted on the calendar page. Great job last year!

  • How wonderful, to find this , its great to see ....

     They all did well !!!

  • @16andrew90 It also happens to be common in bands without a drum major as the drummers and pipers as well are taking their time from the bass drummer.

  • I really like those songs that the band played. What were they? the first two songs sounded like "Pipers Cave" and "The Earl of Mansfield", the last one I couldn't figure out.
