How ridiculous! Esperanto is nothing less then a hybrib language, a mix of the western european languages. If you want to learn a language that gave birth to all those languages then learn Latin itself. Anyway Esperanto fails in its atempt to not be imperialistic as it is clearly connected with Western Europe, the place from where all imperialism comes from.

Practically all languages are hybrid and result of a mix of other languages - and Esperanto is less hybrid than other languages in the sense that it has more regularity.

Those who don't know Esperanto mistakenly consider it a Western European language. But those who analyze it deeper, discover that there are similarities with many Eastern languages, such as Greek, Russian, Slavic languages, Semitic and (to your surprise) even Oriental languages. Esperanto might be ridiculous after all. But you can be pretty sure that much more ridiculous are those people who look down and ridicule things they don't understand. For Psychology, this prejudice and emotional outburst to Esperanto (such as yours) is irrational and a very comprehensible psychological phenomenon. (Google: Psychological Reactions to Esperanto).

this language is really a good idea. The only problem is that only few people use it. I am sure the people who say it is ridiculous don't know it. How can you evaluate it when you don't speak it, write it and understand it.

Esperanto is neutral, easy and not only west european. The creator though of Eastern european countries as well. In China it is used.

@Profetak Mas nada é mais ridículo que o bracejar símio - meu e de meus colegas - tentando comunicar com os estrangeiros que nos aparecem, e que quase invariavelmente não pescam nada de inglês, espanhol, português... népia. Mas ridículo ridículo é o portinglês que os meus colegas falam nos cursos e conferências que dão, ou a ridícula mania que os tugas apanharam de espetar com portinglês no meio das frases, cuspindo coisas como "war-ever", "apel" (macaco o quê??) e outras pérolas.

@Profetak Estamos tão encharcados com 'kischs' anglo-saxónicos que tudo o que não soa como o inglês nos parece ridículo, por vezes até a nossa própria língua. Eu próprio quando comecei a estudar detestava a sonoridade do Esperanto, hoje adoro-a mas mesmo assim ainda me soa meio mal 'saluton', a terminação '-aĵo' e outras palavras, mas é tudo uma questão de hábito.

In Brazil, the majority of the senators have recently approved a law to put Esperanto as an optional subject in all high schools. The law is now being analysed by the deputies. (Sorry, I can't speak German) In Brasilien, verabschiedete der Senat einen Gesetzentwurf zur Esperanto in den Schulen setzen. Die Abgeordnetenkammer ist Analysanden das Gesetz. (Ich spreche nicht viel Deutsch.)
