@pencert It's 8,500 years in the future! All cultures have interbled, and disintegrated again at that point! I think it was cool that some strange Greek modes were used. Also, Patrick Stewart does a heck of a job pretending to play an imaginary instrument ; )

Damint... this clip leaves out the tail-end of the song. Oh well... yeah, Toto did an amazing soundtrack for that film. Steve Lukather would have been the guy actually playing that tune, on the electric six... chorused and phased to sound like a futuristic auto-baliset.

The look of the instrument suits the setting, but they should have jammed on some arabic scale or something exotic sounding, imo. The planet Dune is already a sort of space middle east.
