After witnessing his friend win a $109 freeze-out for $10,000, Jake Meyer started playing online poker in April of 2008, starting with an initial $50 transfer from that same friend. After reading a dozen poker books and grinding lowstakes 180mans, Jake had built his $50 up into $1,500 before getting stuck. He withdrew the money and took a few months off. After a short break, he deposited some money on FTP and began focusing on 9man SNGs after reading a book that talked about "making 100k/year in 9man SNGs". In just a few months Jake went from playing $20 SNGs to playing $100 SNGs and had built a $5k bankroll. In April of 2009, he started dabbling in MTTs and after a quick heater had built his bankroll up to $30k. Jake over-estimated his ability and started playing mid to high-stakes MTTs that summer and got crushed, dropping almost 530 buy-ins and decided to take another break.
In November of 2009, Jake "accidentally" won an APPT Sydney package by winning a $33r 3x turbo at 5am. After trying to withdraw from the tournament and being denied by Pokerstars, he was forced to play, to which he ended up getting 14th out of 396 entries for $22k. This tournament score gave Jake some confidence to come back and start taking poker more seriously in 2010.
He decided to go back to play MTT SNGs and grinded 180s, 90s, and 45-mans. Jake studied a lot, learned to multi-table, won $10k/month, and before he knew it had a $60k bankroll. In the summer of 2010 he switched back to MTTs. After hitting the books ago, he worked on a lot of math and learned a ton about push/fold ranges, reshipping, 3-betting, 4-betting, etc. In the middle of August, Jake entered the $100r FTOPS and finished the rebuy period with exactly 10 chips after getting coolered in the last hand, but decided to take the rebuy/add-on after reading forums about the importance of taking the add-on in rebuys. He "ran like God" and ended up chopping heads up for $96k. The very next day he got 4th in the big Stars 100r for another $36k, and then a few days later won the FTP $216 turbo for $18k, and a couple weeks later got 2nd in a $109 freeze-out for another $31k. In just this month, his bankroll was boosted from $60k to over $200k.
At the start of 2011, Jake took another break to focus on college. As soon as school ended, he started playing full-time again and ended up with over a dozen 5-figure wins in less than three months, including winning his first Sunday major on iPoker for $42k. Overall, Jake has over 1.5 million dollars in online tournament wins, with over $300k profit in the last 15months alone.
When he isn't at school or playing poker, he enjoys being a battle DJ, and has experienced success in that field as well. In 2011, Jake won the Canadian DJ Mixing Championships.
