''Brittany what is wrong with you!'' I snapped.''Its fine..August..Jonas, I guess, I'll see you around'' He said and did an awkward point of putting his hands in his pockets before turning and walking away. Once he was out of sight I turned on Brittany.''What the hell was that!?'' I demanded.'' We're ina church could you not say things like that'' Britanny said.''For God's sake!'' I whined.''What was that!'' I demanded. ''That was Xavier whitehall, we dont talk to him and we do not in any way sit by a piano with him!'' Her words made no sense to me but I didnt have time to question it as she began pulling me towards the back room.''Come on, were gonna be late for family dinner, Nick and Selena and Kevin and all are coming over'' She informed me.''Oh great, run faster'' I said sarcastically.
Sitting down for dinner is the crazed and over srowded house should have been noisy and annoying but I barely noticed as my mind was taken up thoughts of Xavier, not the conversations or his scarred lips but the little dibockile between him and Brittany. I wanted to ask her about it but she refused to talk about it and in the car i tried to mention it as Joe drove us but before I could even get his name out she kicked me so I didnt try again but I did hit her back and then Joe yelled and that was the car ride home. Half hour foward and I was still fasinated by the encounter they had
'So how was youth group today?' Taylor asked as she chopped vegtables and Joe stirred sine kind of meat in a pot beside her.'Good' Brittany said and sat at the island across from her parents.'And to you?' Jir asked. I sighed 'Well actually I met somebody there who made it okay' I said and Brittany shot me daggers.'Oh really, who?' Koe smiled.'Xavier..' I trailed off not knowing his last anme.'Matthews, new kid there' Brittany lies. 'He is not a new kid he said he has been going there for a while' I argued.'August, what did he look like?' Jor asked his tone getting more intense. 'It's a new Xavier!' Brittany insisted,'Why are you lying?' I demanded.'August!' Joe scowlded.'I don't want you talk to Xavier Mitchels again!' Joe said on the verge of yelling.'Why can't I?' I questioned. 'Just don't, ishouldnt have to explain this to justdobt do it' He yelled before looking back down at his steam, I wasn't sure if the steam was coming from the pot or him. I
wanted to ask again and tell him that too much is being kept from me but Taylor asked Joe to get something from the other room and when he was out of earshot she began to explain. 'August, Xavoir is not a person you want to get involved with and he is sure as heck not the boy you will bring home to us!' Taylor said getting angry too. 'I will explain but not tonight, so please just behave during dinner?' She asks and I sighed and nodded before going upstairs to sulk about the fact the first person whobi actually seem to like I on Joe hiylist, but then the thought hit me- is that really so bad?
Dinner was hectic with everyone there, all shouting and passing things around and laughing and smiling and one or two grumpily eating there vegtables. Compared to my mother and I's routine to eat dinner in separete rooms or sometimes I would arrive way past curfew to dinner in the microwave or a tv dinner, but something was always left. I felt pained at the image of my mother eating by herself in our small kitchen wondering where I was and doing what and hoped for once she had a boyfriend or friend to be with her now- to eat and laugh with. Conversation at dinner surprisingly funny and enjoyable, I didn't mention it just because this environment was so different..
