Kenny Burrell and the Jazz Heritage All-Stars perform Gerald Wilson's "Viva Tirado" at Catalina Jazz Club, July 12, 2007.

Personnel:
Kenny Burrell - guitar
Dr. Bobby Rodriguez - trumpet
Nick DiPinna - trombone
Jeff Clayton - alto sax
Tivon Pennicott - tenor sax
Tom Ranier - piano
Roberto Miranda - bass
Clayton Cameron - drums
Mayuto Correa - percussion

Unfortunately I couldn't upload all the videos from the performance due to several of the songs running well over 10 minutes from extended solos, etc. The videos I've uploaded represent about 3/4 of the songs Kenny performed that night.

  • Well even Wes Mongomery recorted his 1st album with Kenny's rig.n guitrar.

  • Hey mister prolific, learn how to spell! It's "in their sleep"

    and "Than kenny ever did"

  • <3 i love u

    awesome vid QQ

  • My friend thanks for clarifying my point, that I was refering to volume of output of albums, gigs, sessions etc.Maybe my statement was a bit grand but musicians like Kenny deserve such praise and not the silly fussing over the word'prolific'

  • I must say, I believe you to be correct, in that Mr. Burrell has indeed recorded more albums as a leader than anyone else - I've always heard this said about him (another contender is Stitt, and I'm sure Lee Konitz and others may now have overtaken him as he's settled into academia more recently), and that means he's to be mentioned as close to the most prolific there is! (I happen to think also amongst the most profound, but that's irrelevant here: "prolific" pertains only to volume of output!)

  • my teacher is playing bass here Roberto Miranda

    amazing bass player and percussionist!!!

  • I truly believe that any of the artists mentioned above would surely agree that this is a very silly and juvenile discussion.

Music is not a competitive sport.

  • dude who cares who the most "profilic" jazz musicians are.. they are all good musicians and they all contribute to good music.. All we have to do is sit back and enjoy the good music they have to offer us

  • I agree he isnt the most prolific writer. As for that list, I agree with Lloyd, Mingus, McLaughlin, Peterson, Monk and Higgins, but Dimeola just sounds funny in that company. Would any nonguitarist have him on there? And what about Wayne Shorter? For me it doesn't get any better.Chick Corea? Keith Jarrett? For guitarists how about Metheny?

In Kenny's defense, you can still say he's a prolific musician, since his improvisations come from the mind. "Surely the most" is a silly comment though.

  • My good friend: pro·lific (prō lif′ik, prəlifik)

adjective; producing many young or much fruit

turning out many products of the mind a prolific scholar or poet... In my books "turning out many products of the mind" would mostly be directed toward the subjects own mind, not the mind of others.. How many of those 250 albums did Kenny compose from scratch? Each of the artists mentioned above composed more in there sleep then Kenny ever did in his entire waking existance. That's prolific...
