My son, Dryden, has been coming with me to Ice gamessince he was 3 yrs old when we moved here, to Kimberley, 20 minuts outside Cranbrook. Last year we entered him in a draw to participate in the opening line up ceremony. Given all the ballots in the entry box, imagine our surprise when we recieved a call telling us he won! I cant tell you how nervous, and excited he was. You could see it in his face, while waiting in the bellies of the Rec Plex, listening to the crowd roar through the walls. It was clear, to us however, that the devotion of the staff and participating members of the program, were all very keen on making this an unforgetable moment. Local photographers shot him as a star, and when the time came, Dryden lined up at the gates with the team, and hit the ice full stride. After the skate, intros and anthem, he came off the ice with a smile bright enough to light up the city of Cranbrook in any power failure. It was an experience he will no doubt cherrish forever. It is these types of events, that do indeed make Cranbrook a hockey town, and this story, plus the many more, all told and even those untold, are sure to make us Hockeyville.
