This previously unreleased Bill Evans' composition "Here's Something for You" was discovered by bassist Marc Johnson from a cassette given by Bill Evans just days before Evans' death.
This unassuming performance shows a deep love, respect and admiration to Bill Evans from two musicians, married to each other, who share an in-depth knowledge of Bill Evans' music. Both Johnson's and Elias' career have been profoundly inspired and touched by Evans.
Bassist Marc Johnson was in the last Evans trio from 1979 to 1980. Eliane Elias during her childhood was listening to her parents' jazz records in Sao Paulo, transcribing Evans solos and playing them note-for-note.
Eliane Elias wrote the heartwarming lyric indicating her personal appreciation on how Evans' influence helped shape her life. The lyric contains song titles or derivation of song titles once performed by Bill Evans.
We can listen to the tune, reflecting on the words, relishing the context while silently paying homage to those people who have made a difference to our lives and helped to make us who we are today.
Lyric:
Here is something for you
Where or when it finds you
Here is my heart, haunted, foolish
Let me find you
Find the one who brought me this love
Find the one who taught me romance
Showed the sunrise
Brought the moonlight
Touch of those hands
They led me to this way of living
Hear the sunrise, singing songs now
Telling stories, which is yours now
On a life reflected, time remembered
When the autumn leaves may fall
Here's the sound that we recall
From the pages of my heart to you

@Ron239: It's interesting that you say that because although I see Marc's hands moving I can't hear the bass even faintly. Is there no recording mic on him?

Bill would have been deeply, deeply moved by this video. This is wonderful, a treasure -- bless you, Eliane and Marc.

@churchst1 Bill apparently never recorded this in a studio, nor did he write it down. He gave a self-made cassette tape of it to Marc Johnson, Eliane's bassist and husband (and Bill's last bassist), just before Bill's death. Maybe if we ask Marc very, very nicely ...
Beautiful performance my Eliane and Marc and beautiful lyrics by Eliane. Thanks.

She's fabulous. I saw her perform at a local jazz club a few years ago. It was a very small intimate environment so I got to watch her up close. Amazing player & very sweet lady !

What a gorgeous tribute to Bill's playing! Honestly, this brought tears to my eyes and tore my heart out. And wonderful to hear Marc Johnson again.

The lyrics are beautiful ... and they say so much... perhaps to understand them, one must have loved . Or at least, known some things about Bill Evans and some of the songs and titles that were a strong part of his music. Sorry you missed the point. I got it and dug it.
